In Michigan, where the election results were eagerly awaited in the US, Abdul el-Sayed, the Muslim candidate of the Democratic Party, addressed his supporters. He became the first Muslim to be elected to the Senate in US history.

Modern.az reports that foreign media spread information about this.

Abdul el-Sayed addressed his constituents and said:

“Michigan, we did it. I am proud and honored to stand before you as the elected senator of this state.”

The politician thanked those who supported his election campaign and stated that he would work to justify the trust placed in him and convey the expectations of Michigan residents to Washington.

During his speech, el-Sayed also addressed US President Donald Trump, who targeted him for his Muslim identity throughout the election campaign.

“Donald, I know you had trouble pronouncing my name. That's why after January you can just call me “Senator,” he said.
