The official social media account of the Iranian Embassy in Armenia has published a video about the Blue Mosque in Yerevan.
Modern.az reports that the facts mentioned in the video have led to the distortion of history.
In the works of all travelers and researchers describing the city of Yerevan, the Blue Mosque (also known as the Huseynali Khan Mosque) is mentioned first as the most magnificent architectural monument of the city, both in terms of its scale and beauty. In terms of its scale, the Blue Mosque in Yerevan was the largest mosque in the Caucasus.
The construction of the Blue Mosque, considered one of the rare examples of Eastern architecture, began in 1760 during the reign of Huseynali Khan Qajar and was completed in 1766.
However, the video states: "This mosque, which is a part of Yerevan's historical heritage, was built by Huseynali Khan during the reign of the Afshar dynasty in the 18th century."
An archival document from 1949, preserved in the State Archive of the Republic of Azerbaijan, contains information about 15 architectural monuments belonging to Azerbaijanis recorded in the territory of the Armenian SSR. That list noted the existence of 4 mosques in the city of Yerevan, indicating when they were built and for what purpose they were used. That document states that the Blue Mosque was built in 1776.
