US President Donald Trump said that if Democrats take control of both chambers of Congress in the November 3 midterm elections, he will actively use his veto power. He stressed that he would not allow Democrats to destroy the results of the work he has done so far.

Modern.az reports that Trump spoke about this in an interview with the “New York Post” newspaper.

The President's remarks during his conversation with journalist Miranda Devine for the “Pod Force One” podcast will be aired on Monday.

“I think I'm going to be 'Mr. Veto,'” Trump said.

The US President speculated that Democrats would send him various bills to sign. However, he will veto those documents until a compromise is reached between the parties.

“We'll probably reach agreements at some point. This has happened before and it won't be the first such instance,” Trump noted.

Trump vetoed 10 bills during his first presidential term. In his second presidential term, he has used this right twice so far.

According to forecasts, Republicans will have to fight hard to maintain their majority in Congress. Democrats are shown to be in the lead in the fight for control of the House of Representatives. The outcome of the elections for control of the Senate is considered more uncertain. Republicans are fighting for seats in several states where strong competition is expected.

If Democrats gain control of at least one chamber of Congress, they intend to intensify investigations into Trump, his administration, and his allies.

The US President, however, expressed confidence that Republicans will maintain their majority in both chambers of Congress.
