Two "Avenger" anti-aircraft missile systems have been deployed near US President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. The missile systems were dislocated after a warning from the US Secret Service about an increased threat level.
Modern.az reports that foreign media has released information about this.
"The US Secret Service operates in a high-threat environment and constantly adapts our protective measures by applying the most modern tools, technologies, and methods to ensure the safety of individuals under our protection," a Secret Service representative said.
At the request of the US Secret Service, the airspace over Mar-a-Lago is closed while Trump is there. The agency is also seeking a permanent ban on flights over the area due to unfavorable intelligence information regarding threats and terrorist threats.
Earlier this year, the Secret Service announced that the number of threats against individuals under its protection had increased by 40 percent compared to the same period last year.
"The current threat environment is tense, real, and volatile. The threat of an air attack for Mar-a-Lago is constant and significant. Since this residence is one of the president's main residences and he often performs his duties as head of state from there, the threat must be minimized as much as possible, regardless of whether the president is there at a specific time," said Matthew Quinn, the agency's deputy director.
The US-Iran confrontation is cited as one of the main reasons for the increased threat level. In addition, the publication recalled that in recent years, Trump has survived several assassination attempts by US citizens.
According to information, since the beginning of Trump's second presidential term, dozens of aircraft violating temporary flight restrictions in the West Palm Beach area have been intercepted. Most were small, single-engine aircraft piloted by pilots unaware of the restrictions.
Donald Trump canceled his pre-election events planned for Iowa and Kansas earlier this week, replacing them with online speeches. Vice President James David Vance also unexpectedly canceled a press conference scheduled for Minnesota.
The US Secret Service has not commented on whether these decisions were related to the increased threat level. The White House has also not provided a comment on the matter.
