Ziya Öztürkler, Speaker of the Parliament of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), called for stronger support for the rights and interests of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus at the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC).
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Ziya Öztürkler, Speaker of the TRNC Parliament, at the 20th session of the PUIC hosted by the Milli Majlis.
In his speech, he emphasized that severe humanitarian crises are taking place in various regions of the Islamic geography, especially in Gaza and Palestine. Öztürkler stated that he strongly condemns attacks against civilians and children, and noted the importance of Islamic countries demonstrating a unified and decisive position on this issue.
The Speaker of the TRNC Parliament stated that the Turkish Cypriot people have been forced to live in isolation from the world in political, economic, sports, cultural and social fields for decades. He reminded that in the last 50 years, member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have adopted a number of important decisions to eliminate injustices against the Turkish Cypriot people and to establish stronger ties with the international community.
“Our expectation from brotherly countries is to take more concrete steps towards the development of inter-parliamentary, economic, sports and cultural relations with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,” Ziya Öztürkler emphasized.
He stated that a fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue passes through the acceptance of the existing realities on the island, that is, two separate sovereign states. Öztürkler noted that the recognition of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people is a prerequisite for a lasting solution.
The Speaker of the TRNC Parliament also thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his support for the two-state solution model in Cyprus.
