The Iranian government has declared a nationwide mourning in connection with the funeral ceremony of the late supreme leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, which will be held on July 9 in Mashhad.
Modern.az reports with reference to Iranian media that the information was announced by government spokesperson Fatima Muhajirani.
She said that according to the decision adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers today, in order to facilitate the return of those participating in Ayatollah Khamenei's funeral ceremony from Tehran, an official holiday has been declared in the capital on Tuesday, July 7.
Muhajirani noted that, according to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, Thursday, July 9, has been declared a nationwide official day of mourning in connection with the funeral ceremony of Ayatollah Khamenei, who is remembered as the “Martyr of Iran,” to be held in the city of Mashhad.
According to the official program, the farewell ceremony for citizens with Khamenei will begin on July 4 at 06:00 in the Imam Khomeini Musalla complex in Tehran and will continue until July 5 at 20:00. After the ceremonies in Tehran, Qom and Iraq, the late leader is expected to be buried in the city of Mashhad on July 9.
