“Speaking at the opening ceremony of the IV Shusha Global Media Forum on “Media’s Mission in Promoting Peace: Restoring Truth and Rebuilding Trust” in Shusha, President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev stated that our country has been working on connections for a sufficiently long time: “Our sea trade port is the largest port in the Caspian with a capacity of 15 million tons, and its volume will be increased to ensure 25 million tons.”
The policy implemented under the leadership of the President of Azerbaijan is transforming our country into the transport and logistics hub of the region.”
Modern.az reports that MP Vugar Bayramov shared a post about this on his social media account.
The MP noted that international cargo transportation, on the one hand, strengthens the country's geopolitical position, and on the other hand, increases state revenues: “The Zangazur corridor, which will have a transit potential of 15 million tons, will become an important segment of the Middle Corridor in the near future, serving to further strengthen Azerbaijan's geopolitical position, as well as creating opportunities for increasing the revenues of the region's states.
So, how much revenue does Azerbaijan generate from international cargo transportation?
In 2025, out of 16 million 813 thousand tons of cargo transported by railways, 14 million 269 thousand tons accounted for international cargo transportation. Of this, 6 million 695 thousand tons were direct transit cargo. Import cargo was 4 million 723 thousand tons, and export was 2 million 850 thousand tons. The revenue from railway cargo transportation was 383 million 996 thousand manats. Of this, 333 million 911 thousand manats accounted for international cargo transportation.”

The MP reminded that in 2025, the revenue from air cargo transportation was 2 billion 398 million manats, of which 2 billion 397 million manats accounted for international cargo transportation:
“Last year, 57 million 382 thousand manats were earned from international cargo transportation by sea, 266 million 560 thousand manats by pipelines, and 204 million 275 thousand manats by road. The official results for the first quarter of this year are also promising. The revenue generated by railway in the first 3 months of this year was 96 million 049 manats, of which 81 million 765 thousand manats accounted for international cargo transportation. The revenue from air cargo transportation was 571 million 292 thousand manats, with international cargo transportation accounting for 571 million 50 thousand manats.
Official figures show that last year, the revenue from international cargo transportation was 3.3 billion manats. This means that the realization of the target set by the President of Azerbaijan will enable Azerbaijan to generate nearly 7 billion manats in revenue from international cargo transportation annually. This will not only support the diversification of the economy but also create conditions for increasing Azerbaijan's state revenues.”
