US President Donald Trump said that after a victory against Iran, they could declare the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's main maritime routes, as US territory.

According to Trump, Washington currently exercises de facto control over shipping in the region and maintains a blockade regime. He emphasized that no ship would be able to pass through this water corridor without the consent of the United States.
It was noted that the US leader made his statement about the Strait of Hormuz being transferred to US jurisdiction with a smile. For this reason, it is not yet clear whether his words represent a real political plan or a rhetorical statement targeting Tehran.
