A 63-year-old Azerbaijani citizen driving a passenger bus in Poland's Silesia region has been detained.

Modern.az reports with reference to local media that the incident occurred on the evening of August 9, on route number 23, which operates between the cities of Katowice and Zabrze.

After 10:00 PM, one of the car drivers noticed that the bus was moving erratically on the road and occasionally veering off the road, and reported it to the police. He continued to follow the bus and inform the police about its direction of travel.

As a result, the bus was stopped in the city of Ruda-Slenska. It was determined that an Azerbaijani citizen was behind the wheel.

During the police check, 2.75 per mille of alcohol was found in his blood.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the driver started work before 2:00 PM on that day. He consumed alcohol during the several hours he was transporting passengers and nevertheless continued to drive the bus.

The man was detained. After sobering up, his case was sent to court in an expedited manner.

On August 10, the Ruda-Slenska court found the Azerbaijani citizen guilty and sentenced him to 6 months in prison.

In addition, he was banned from driving a vehicle for 6 years. The driver must also pay a total of 20,000 zlotys to the state and victim assistance fund, as well as cover court costs.

The police are conducting a separate investigation into the driver's right to drive a bus. He had a driving license issued in a foreign country. It is currently being investigated whether that document is required to be exchanged in Poland.
