Azerbaijan surpassed Russia in June to become Turkey's largest natural gas supplier via pipeline.
Modern.az reports, citing dailysabah, that according to official data, Azerbaijan surpassed Russia in June to become Turkey's largest natural gas supplier via pipeline.
According to calculations based on data from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), Turkey imported approximately 1.01 billion cubic meters (bcm) of pipeline gas from Azerbaijan in June.
Iran ranked second with 883 million cubic meters, and Russia third with 882 million cubic meters. Russia was Turkey's largest pipeline natural gas supplier in the first five months of 2026. Azerbaijan, however, remains Turkey's main gas supplier in June of each year since 2023.
It was noted that Azerbaijan supplied 744 million cubic meters of pipeline gas to Turkey in June 2023, approximately 997 million cubic meters in June 2024, and 1.02 billion cubic meters in the same month of 2025.
According to EPDK data, Turkey's total natural gas imports decreased by 6.19% year-on-year in June to approximately 3.06 billion cubic meters. Pipeline supplies accounted for approximately 2.78 billion cubic meters of total imports, while liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports accounted for 282 million cubic meters. All of Turkey's LNG imports in June came from Algeria.
Despite the decrease in imports, natural gas consumption in Turkey increased by 4.59% year-on-year to approximately 2.83 billion cubic meters.
Industrial sector consumption was approximately 1.09 billion cubic meters, gas consumption in the transformation and conversion sector, including electricity generation, was 594 million cubic meters, and household consumption was 710 million cubic meters.
At the end of June, Turkey's natural gas reserves amounted to approximately 5.27 billion cubic meters. Approximately 4.97 billion cubic meters of gas were stored in underground gas storage facilities, and 296 million cubic meters in LNG terminals.
