European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of rethinking Europe geopolitically.
Modern.az reports that during her speech at the event held to mark the 80th anniversary of "Die Zeit" newspaper, she stated that the European Union should not be exposed to the influence of Russia, Turkey and China.
Von der Leyen noted that she supports the expansion of the EU and said: "We must complete the formation of the European continent so that it does not remain under the influence of Russia, Turkey or China. We must think more broadly and geopolitically."
According to her, until now, the EU's competitiveness has been based on cheap Russian energy, cheap labor from China, and cheap security guarantees from the US. "This period is over. We must completely rebuild. We must ensure the security of our continent ourselves and be more independent," she added.
