Criminal case of Iranians who wanted to smuggle large quantities of drugs into Azerbaijan sent to court

The preliminary investigation into the criminal case initiated against 3 citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran who illegally crossed the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been completed in the Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office.

This was reported to Modern.az by the Press Service of the General Prosecutor's Office.

According to the information, the investigation established reasonable suspicions that Makhtoumi Sadegh Arazghorban, Atjani Taher Halat, and Ghanghermeh Omid Chaljeh smuggled particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs into the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan for sale.

During the investigations, it was determined that the mentioned individuals, acting as a group in prior conspiracy, illegally acquired more than 45 kg of dried and more than 328 kg of undried marijuana for sale and smuggled them across the customs border through the section of the Caspian Sea belonging to the Republic of Azerbaijan using a "Liner" type motorboat.

Later, as these individuals approached the coastal part of Khachmaz district, realizing that they would be discovered by border authorities, they threw the narcotic drugs, which were the subject of the crime, into the sea.

As a result of the conducted investigation and operational search measures, the mentioned narcotic drugs were discovered and seized in the coastal part of the Caspian Sea belonging to Khachmaz district and in other areas of the sea.

Based on the collected evidence, Makhtoumi Sadegh Arazghorban, Atjani Taher Halat, and Ghanghermeh Omid Chaljeh were charged as accused persons under Articles 206.3.2 (smuggling by a group of persons in prior conspiracy), 234.4-1 (illegal acquisition, storage, and transportation of particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs for sale), and 318.2 (illegal crossing of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan by a group of persons in prior conspiracy) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Based on the petition of the investigative p and the submission of the prosecutor exercising procedural guidance over the preliminary investigation, a measure of restraint in the form of arrest was chosen against them by a court decision.

The indictment in the criminal case was approved by the prosecutor exercising procedural guidance over the preliminary investigation and sent to the Sumgayit Court for Serious Crimes for consideration.
