The Pentagon has characterized "Alibaba", BYD, "Baidu" and several other Chinese companies as "Chinese military companies" operating in the US, blacklisting them from access to American capital, technology, and government contracts.

Modern.az reports with reference to "South China Morning Post" newspaper that a federal register notice, scheduled to be published on June 10, states that the Pentagon has determined that Chinese companies meet the designation requirements under section 1260H of the "National Defense Authorization" Act. This section requires the Pentagon to identify Chinese companies operating directly or indirectly in the US and supporting China's military-civilian strategy.

The new list goes beyond traditional defense, surveillance, and state-owned industrial groups, encompassing some of China's most recognized private and advanced companies, including e-commerce giant "Alibaba", electric vehicle manufacturer BYD, search and artificial intelligence company "Baidu", electric car manufacturer "Nio", biotechnology firm "WuXi AppTec", solar energy manufacturers "JA Solar" and "Trina Solar", robot manufacturer "Unitree", lidar device manufacturers "Hesai" and "RoboSense", and network equipment manufacturer "TP-Link".

The Pentagon also removed 10 entities from the previous version of the list published in January 2025, including "China International Information Services", "China National Chemical Engineering", 2 subsidiaries of state-owned energy giant CNOOC, and "Cosco Shipping Finance".
