The number of military personnel who died in peacetime in the Armenian Army has been announced.
Modern.az reports that the "death statistics" jointly prepared by the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly and the "Peace Dialogue" organization are based on open sources and appeals from family members of deceased servicemen.
The number of military personnel who died in peacetime in the Armenian army by year is as follows:
2021: 32 people
2022: 38 people
2023: 53 people
2024: 32 people
2025: 32 people
2026 (for the first 7 months): 30 people
Armenian experts say that this indicator for Armenia is quite high compared to European countries and even surpasses the indicators of most post-Soviet countries. In this regard, Armenia is more on par with some unstable countries in South America and Africa.
It was noted that Armenia is also at the forefront in terms of the number of suicides in the army. The country is ranked first in the world for cases of "incitement to suicide."
Armenian journalist and blogger Natali Aleksanyan stated that these statistics indicate the existence of deep structural and systemic problems in the army. These problems range from the low professional level of the command staff and cases of open sabotage to the formation of relations close to a criminal subculture among military personnel.
“This is indeed a very serious problem. So serious that ignoring it can be considered treason.
But who is responsible for this?
The primary responsibility lies with the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces. Because the daily activities of the army fall within the direct powers of the General Staff. The General Staff is also responsible for managing the service and living conditions of military personnel in military units.
The secondary responsible person is the Minister of Defense, because in peacetime, the Chief of the General Staff is his direct deputy.
By the way, the staff psychologists who work in the army at the expense of our taxes but have no real benefit will also be held responsible for this.
