The fake show built around Ruben Vardanyan under the guise of “freedom” continues with full intensity.
Modern.az reminds that it is clear that this process has moved beyond mere legal defense and transformed into a purposefully managed political-communication manipulation. Family members - his wife Veronika Zonabend and son David Vardanyan - are also at the forefront of this campaign, becoming active participants in the process. They are trying to keep this fabricated campaign on the agenda through the enormous financial wealth Vardanyan acquired through various illicit means over the years, as well as international lobbying networks. However, real facts and serious crimes committed cannot cover up such artificial attempts.
Ruben Vardanyan's past fully reveals his true face and global crimes. Through the “Troika Dialog” investment company he led for years, he established a massive money laundering network consisting of 76 offshore companies and withdrew $4.6 billion from Russia through this mechanism. Vardanyan, who concealed part of the wealth he gained through financial machinations under the guise of charity and "patronage," later financed separatism in the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan, creating a basis for increased tension and bloody conflicts in the region. This person, who was distinguished by his destructive actions even during his illegal activities in Karabakh, was detained in September 2023 while trying to evade responsibility during Azerbaijan's anti-terrorist measures. The attempt by his supporters today to present him as a "political prisoner" is nothing more than another unsuccessful show to cover up his financial crimes and separatist acts.
It should be noted that during his detention, his relatives and the Ruben Vardanyan Charitable Foundation launched international "show"-like campaigns.

Legal and lobbying structures - The US-registered law firm “Perseus Strategies” has been engaged to protect David Vardanyan's interests, and although official reports show tens of thousands of dollars, the actual cost is much higher. In addition, intensive lobbying activities have been carried out towards the US Senate, House of Representatives, State Department, and National Security Council. On the other hand, giant communication companies such as “Edelman Global Advisory” and “H/Advisors” have been used as media access points.
But Vardanyan and his circle must understand that there is no escape from justice. Despite all these financial resources, the campaign is completely unfounded and insincere. Vardanyan has not even expressed regret for his crimes, his irresponsible actions that fueled separatism in Karabakh and forced Azerbaijan into a mandatory anti-terrorist operation. Although he tried to deceive the international community and politicians by distributing part of his dirty money under the guise of charity, he could not escape accountability before Azerbaijani justice and was sentenced to 20 years in prison on February 17, 2026, for his crimes. Ruben Vardanyan and his patrons must understand that cunning lobbying games, financially supported campaigns, and fabricated statements will not help the criminal evade responsibility.
