The date for the PKK to surrender its weapons has been announced.
Modern.az reports that the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, stated in Ankara that the PKK will begin to hand over its weapons to the central government of Iraq in October.
Kurtulmuş spoke about this at a joint press conference with the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Heybat al-Halbusi. He made the statement within the framework of Turkey's "Turkey Without Terror" project.
According to him, preparations for the process of handing over weapons will begin next month.
The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament reminded that in August, the Turkish Parliament adopted a law for the implementation of this roadmap. The PKK, after Abdullah Öcalan's call, decided to disarm and disband itself in June 2025.
Kurtulmuş noted that the process is not only related to Turkey's internal security. Ankara also considers the disarmament of the PKK to be related to the situation in Iraq and Syria.
Thus, the process of the PKK surrendering its weapons is expected to begin in October.
