Under the direct leadership and personal control of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, large-scale and revolutionary reforms have been carried out in the direction of the development of the agricultural sector in the country in 2015-2025.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Khalid Ahadov, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for socio-economic issues, during his speech at the regional meeting for the Mountainous Shirvan economic region held in Ismayilli.
He stated that during this period, state programs for the development of viticulture, tea growing, rice cultivation, citrus growing, hazelnut growing, tobacco growing, sericulture and cotton growing were adopted. As a result, state support for the agricultural sector has increased, production and export potential has risen in a number of areas, and the level of self-sufficiency for basic products has improved.
According to X. Ahadov, full self-sufficiency has been achieved in fruits and vegetables and eggs, while positive dynamics are observed in meat, milk, fish and potato products.
He noted that large infrastructure projects have been implemented to provide irrigation water for agriculture, modern irrigation systems have been expanded, new reservoirs have been built and canals have been reconstructed.
“A lot of work has been done to provide the agricultural sector with machinery, and the machinery park has been almost completely renewed. At the same time, 169.1 thousand hectares of land that were out of agricultural circulation and unused have been returned to circulation,” X. Ahadov emphasized.
The President's assistant added that 52 agroparks have been established in 32 districts. According to him, agroparks have made a significant contribution to the development of entrepreneurship, the production of competitive products, the reduction of import dependence and the increase of employment.
