The US Department of Justice is trying to prevent the counting of more than 20,000 ballots sent by mail by voters in California.
Modern.az reports, citing Reuters, that the issue is being investigated in court.
The Donald Trump administration claims that these voters may not be US citizens.
California authorities, however, reject these claims, stating that the validity of voter information is questionable and that restrictions could disenfranchise legal voters.
The court hearing takes place ahead of the midterm congressional elections on November 3.
