Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan commented on issues related to the signing of a peace agreement with Azerbaijan, amendments to the Armenian Constitution, and the TRIPP project.

Modern.az reports that A. Mirzoyan spoke about this during the government hour in parliament while answering questions from Areqa Hovhannisyan, a deputy of the “Strong Armenia” faction.

He spoke about official Baku's position on the Constitution, saying that Azerbaijan did not put it forward as a direct condition in the negotiations, but wanted the Constitution to be changed when the issue of signing the agreement came up.

The minister stated that it is not correct to talk about postponing peace, claiming that a state of peace has existed between Armenia and Azerbaijan for a long time.

“I will disappoint you: it is not possible to postpone peace, because peace has existed for a long time. If you have contact with those living on the border or if your relatives serve in the army, they will tell you that there is peace,” Mirzoyan said.

He added that the conditions for peace have been formed to such an extent that trade relations have been established and cargo transportation is carried out through the territory of Azerbaijan.

According to Mirzoyan, the signing of the peace agreement is also not being postponed. The Armenian government has repeatedly stated its readiness to start negotiations as soon as possible to determine the place and time of the document's signing.

The minister stated that he is ready to ensure the signing of the agreement until the end of the government's term, i.e., until 2027. According to him, this can happen in late 2026 or in 2027.

At the same time, Mirzoyan confirmed that Azerbaijan links the signing of the peace agreement to a specific issue.

“They do not put this forward as a condition during negotiations. But when the issue of signing the agreement comes up, they say, change your Constitution. They do not openly demand it, but this point must be taken into account,” he said.

Deputy Areqa Hovhannisyan emphasized that this is the condition itself. Mirzoyan, however, said there is a difference between openly setting a condition and not wanting to continue the process until that demand is met.

“They say that this is your business, but we will not sign the agreement until you do it,” said the Armenian Foreign Minister.
