Russian President Vladimir Putin said that any attempt to remove his country from the global gas market would lead to serious consequences.

Modern.az reports that Putin spoke about this during his speech at the Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) held in Moscow.

According to the Russian leader, natural gas currently accounts for approximately 25 percent of the world's energy balance. He stated that global gas demand could reach 5.5 trillion cubic meters per year by 2050.

Putin emphasized that Russia ranks first in the world in terms of natural gas reserves. He presented his country as a responsible gas exporter, a reliable and predictable partner.

The Russian President noted that the Gas Exporting Countries Forum accounts for approximately 40 percent of global gas exports.

“Any attempt aimed at removing Russia from the ranks of participants in the world gas market leads to serious consequences,” Putin said.

He also criticized European countries for refusing Russian gas. According to Putin, Europe is harming its industry and social sphere with this policy.

The Russian leader said that gas prices in the world market have sharply increased, but prices may fall again in the future.

In his speech, Putin also touched upon the explosions that occurred in the Nord Stream gas pipelines. He called the incidents “direct acts of terrorism.”

It should be noted that explosions occurred in the Nord Stream pipelines in September 2022. Investigations into the incident have been carried out in various countries.
