The Armenian Parliament has ratified the agreement on the TRIPP transport route. 63 deputies voted in favor of the document, while 32 deputies voted against it.
Modern.az reports that “Sputnik Armenia” disseminated this information.
The opposition “Strong Armenia” and “Hayastan” factions in the Armenian Parliament voted against the agreement.
Previously, the project caused extensive discussions in the Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee, and then in the plenary session.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, speaking in parliament a day earlier, stated that the project could be implemented even before a peace agreement is signed with Baku. He also did not rule out that the implementation of TRIPP and other joint initiatives could in itself contribute to the signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The TRIPP (“Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity”) project, which Azerbaijan calls the “Zangezur Corridor,” envisages the creation of a strategic transit corridor passing through Armenia's Syunik province.
According to the agreement, Armenia will grant the US exclusive long-term rights for up to 99 years for the development of the route. Azerbaijan, in turn, aims to establish a land connection with Nakhchivan via this route.
