Ulf Kristersson, leader of Sweden's Moderate Coalition Party, has announced his resignation as prime minister. He sent his resignation letter to the Speaker of Parliament.
Modern.az reports that Kristersson published his resignation letter on the social platform "X".
"Now the Speaker of Parliament must lead the next steps towards forming a new government," Kristersson wrote.
According to the final results of the parliamentary elections held on September 13, the opposition center-left alliance – the Swedish Social Democratic Workers' Party, the Left Party, the Green Party and the Center Party – outperformed the ruling center-right bloc.
The opposition alliance won 176 seats, while the Moderate Coalition Party, the Liberal Party, the Christian Democratic Party and the Sweden Democrats, which formed the ruling bloc, won 173 seats. Thus, the difference in the 349-seat parliament was 3 seats.
The opposition bloc was also ahead in the vote ratio. According to final calculations, the center-left bloc collected 49.5 percent of the votes, while the ruling bloc collected approximately 48.8 percent.
After Kristersson's resignation, the Speaker of Parliament will lead the process of forming a new government. According to the Swedish Parliament, the prime minister is elected by the Riksdag, and after the election results, the process of forming a new government begins.
