After the parliamentary elections held in Israel on October 27, no political camp was able to obtain the 61 mandates needed to form a government, creating political uncertainty.
Modern.az reports that “The Cradle” publication analyzed scenarios that could allow Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to remain in power.
According to the publication, Arab parties, which won 19 mandates in the Knesset, could play a decisive role in the formation of the government. However, most opposition parties do not want to participate in a government based on their support.
First scenario: emergency national unity government
“The Cradle” believes that a new military confrontation with Iran could create a basis for Gadi Eisenkot to be represented in a government with Netanyahu, using the argument of national security.
Such an agreement could provide for Netanyahu to remain as prime minister, or for the head of government to be rotated. According to the publication's assumption, in this case, opposition representatives would join the government, while Arab and ultra-Orthodox parties could remain outside the coalition.
Second scenario: new government with the support of Arab deputies
Eisenkot could try to replace Netanyahu with the support of Arab deputies. However, his allies' opposition to cooperation with Arab parties complicates this option. There is also disagreement among Arab political forces regarding support for such a government.
Third scenario: repeat elections
If coalition talks remain inconclusive, new parliamentary elections could be held in the country. In this case, Netanyahu could continue to serve as Prime Minister until a new government is formed.
The publication also links Netanyahu's interest in remaining in power with the ongoing corruption trial against him and demands for an investigation into security shortcomings before the October 7 attack.
