A ram of the “Arashan” meat-fat breed was sold for 1 million dollars in Kyrgyzstan.
Modern.az reports that the animal is a descendant of a ram nicknamed "Frenkel", which was purchased from Kazakhstan in 2023 for 150 thousand dollars.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan, the large-sum deal took place within the framework of an international festival attended by farmers from Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The event was dedicated to the development of the “Arashan” breed.
This breed was officially registered in Kyrgyzstan in 2021. Work on its creation began in the 1970s at the Machine Testing Station in Chuy region. Hisar rams brought from Tajikistan and local coarse-wool ewes were used in the breeding work.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the “Arashan” breed is distinguished by its high yield of tender and juicy meat, as well as tail fat.
This breed is adapted to the demands of high mountainous areas and steppe conditions in valleys. The sheep are hardy, well adapted to long-term summer pasture conditions, and can also be kept in stable conditions.
