Ali Akbar Velayati, the international affairs advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, sharply criticized Armenia's support for the "Trump Route" (TRIPP) project and stated that Tehran's position on this issue remains unchanged.
Modern.az reports that Velayati wrote about this in his article titled "An open and sincere appeal to the Prime Minister."
He criticized the policy of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, stating that accepting the "Trump Route" is a shameful step for the Armenian people.
Velayati reminded that Iran is against the creation of the Zangezur corridor, and this position is a "red line" defined by the country's supreme leadership.
He also stated that he warned Armenia's ambassador in Tehran:
“If Trump and his allies want to cross this 'red line' of Iran, we will break their legs.”
Velayati noted that Iran considers it its responsibility to protect the security of the South Caucasus with or without Russia.
According to him, Pashinyan's recent steps make Armenia's relations with Azerbaijan, Iran, and Turkey unstable and unpredictable.
It should be noted that the Armenian parliament approved the proposal for the construction of the "Trump Route" project at the end of last week. Velayati assessed this decision as an unproductive step by the Pashinyan government and contrary to Armenia's interests.
