Lieutenant General Brett Sylvia, who led strategic planning at the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, has been relieved of his duties on suspicion of leaking classified information to the press.
Modern.az reports that, according to an internal investigation report obtained by “Axios”, the general admitted to passing information related to Ukraine and Iran to journalists from two separate media outlets.
According to the publication, Sylvia confirmed that he leaked information in a video-recorded statement after failing four polygraph tests.
According to allegations, the transfer of information began in June 2025. The general contacted journalists via the “Signal” messenger, and met one of them in person in Arlington, Virginia. During that meeting, he reportedly shared notes he had taken from a classified report on US aid to Ukraine.
It should be noted that a report by “Associated Press” citing a Pentagon official indicates three polygraph tests. The matter has been sent to the US Department of Justice for possible legal action. Sylvia did not respond to the agency's request for comment.
