The US Federal Reserve System (FES) did not reduce the discount rate in accordance with the request of the Washington administration.

10 people voted in favor of keeping the monetary policy unchanged, and two people voted against it.
"The Committee continues to pursue a policy of maintaining sufficient reserves in the banking system. Economic activity is growing rapidly. Despite the continued uncertainty, partly caused by geopolitical events, domestic spending remains stable. A significant increase in productivity and capital investments is observed. The number of jobs is increasing proportionally to the number of the workforce, and the unemployment rate has remained almost unchanged," the institution's statement said.
According to FES, inflation in the US remains high: "As additional data becomes available, the committee will determine the policy necessary to return inflation to the target level of 2% in a timely manner. The committee will ensure price stability."
It should be noted that some time ago, the discount rate was increased for the first time in the last 3 years.
