The reconstruction and urban planning projects implemented by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev are the best example for us.
Modern.az reports that Balhisa Bashir, Executive Director of Barwaqa Relief Organization, stated this in an interview with Modern.az within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum held in Baku.
According to her, in Kenya's Tana River region, where they operate, people have been suffering from drought, poverty and lack of infrastructure for years:
“If there is no water, there is no life. Without water, it is impossible to talk about development. People cannot build houses, hospitals, or create normal living conditions.”
B. Bashir stated that one of the main causes of conflicts in the region is precisely the lack of water. According to her, people clash with each other to graze their animals and find water:
“When there is no water, there is no peace. This problem is at the root of many conflicts in Africa.”
The participant from Kenya also drew attention to the difficulties faced by women and girls. She stated that in some areas, girls stay away from school due to lack of hygienic conditions, and women are forced to give birth in dangerous conditions due to lack of medical services.
She emphasized that the reconstruction and urban planning projects implemented under the leadership of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev are an example for them:
“The President of Azerbaijan first developed an action plan, and then created infrastructure. This is how development begins. I would like the leaders of other countries to come and see the work done here with their own eyes.”
B. Bashir also added that the main purpose of forums should not only be to discuss, but to learn and apply real solutions:
“We want leaders not to just sit in conference halls. They should go to places and get acquainted with the work done, as in Azerbaijan.”
