The preparation of an agreement between Russia and Iran on gas transportation through Azerbaijan has reached its final stage.
Modern.az reports that this was announced by Hamid Bovard, acting Minister of Oil of Iran.
According to him, the main agreements on the project between Moscow and Tehran have already been reached. Currently, only technical issues remain to be resolved.
“Now the technical issues must be resolved, and after that, the agreement will be ready,” the Iranian official said.
Bovard emphasized that he hopes for the imminent start of supplies via the gas pipeline that will pass through Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that in January 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that gas transportation to Iran in the initial stage was planned at a volume of 2 billion cubic meters per year. In the future, the possibilities of increasing this indicator to 55 billion cubic meters are being discussed.
Elshad Nasirov, Vice President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), also stated on October 16 that the technical capabilities of the existing gas infrastructure and compressor stations were being evaluated within the framework of the project.
It should be recalled that trilateral energy cooperation issues were also discussed at a meeting held in Turkmenistan on October 9 with the participation of the presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran.
