The US-Iran memorandum on the cessation of hostilities was digitally signed by Presidents Masoud Pezeshkian and Donald Trump. The provisions of the memorandum have already been published in the foreign press.
Modern.az reports that the head of Iran's negotiating team with the US - Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf - stated that the collection of payments for passage through the Strait of Hormuz has been included in the Memorandum of Understanding. He said that passage through Hormuz would be free during the 60-day negotiation period.
In an interview with Iranian state television, Ghalibaf touched on various issues related to the negotiations.
He stated that the Strait of Hormuz "will not return to its pre-war status."
Ghalibaf said that Iran has sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz and is entitled to receive payments for the services it provides. However, he emphasized that this does not mean Iran will disregard international law and maritime navigation rules.
According to him, after the 60-day free period expires, Iran plans to charge service fees from ships passing through the strait.
The head of Iran's negotiating team noted that they did not allow any of the nine objectives put forward by Israel and the US to start the war to be realized, and the opposing side could not achieve any of its goals. He stated that this war clearly revealed various realities.
Ghalibaf stated that the recent war had global implications, and its consequences were felt on geopolitical, military, and international levels. According to him, Iran faced a war conducted with the most modern technologies by the US, which it considers the world's strongest military, economic, and political force, and Israel, which possesses nuclear-military power.
Ghalibaf claimed that they achieved some results they wanted to obtain militarily many times more through negotiations.
