Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke about the opposition during his speech in parliament yesterday. He said that the opposition should be resisted.
"Now the "three-headed war party" questions this peace agreement (with Azerbaijan - ed.). It turns out that there is a force in the Armenian parliament that does not accept the architecture of peace. This creates threats and causes direct reactions. We must see these cause-and-effect relationships and resist them," N. Pashinyan emphasized.
The harsh messages voiced by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in parliament indicate that political tension in the country has entered a new phase. Experts believe that the confrontation between the government and the opposition may deepen further.
In his statement to Modern.az, the chairman of the Baku Club of Political Scientists, Zaur Mammadov, stated that Nikol Pashinyan's speech in parliament can be considered a very radical speech:
"He openly wagged his finger at the Armenian opposition. As a result, he warned about the very harsh fate awaiting the opposition. In general, according to the Armenian opposition, the political parties represented in parliament after the elections have no legitimacy, they managed to collect votes precisely through bribery. Therefore, their activities should be given a legal assessment.
Robert Kocharyan has already been banned from leaving the country. This shows that Pashinyan will be ruthless against opposition leaders. But there is also a reason for this. In due time, Kocharyan and his ilk were ruthless against the opposition themselves. We know what kind of terrorist incidents occurred within Armenia in one way or another.
Opposition leaders also want to hinder the peace process in the South Caucasus. We know that foreign forces use the Armenian issue in one way or another. As a result, there has been no stability in the Caucasus for more than 100 years. But today there are opportunities for this. In order to appreciate this opportunity, it is absolutely essential that people who are far from the orders of foreign forces and do not obey them are in power.
It is known that after the elections in Armenia, the issue of constitutional changes has also been somewhat questioned. This is because Pashinyan's party does not have an absolute majority. On the other hand, even if there was an absolute majority, the elections showed that the Armenian people may not yet give the answer Pashinyan wants in a referendum on the national issue.
Therefore, the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia will continue. As for the peace agreement, this will be the last step taken. In the ongoing peace process, Armenia must fulfill its obligations. This is primarily related to the opening of the Zangazur corridor and the fulfillment of obligations related to communications. At the same time, it is the issue of abolishing all symbols and offices of separatists in Armenia. This issue must be resolved.
Among these issues was the renewal of the Constitution. At this point, the main issue is to continue the peace process, remove obstacles, then hold a referendum and sign a peace agreement."
The political scientist emphasized that a decision could be made regarding the arrest of Kocharyan and Tsarukyan:
"Most likely, an arrest warrant may be issued for Gagik Tsarukyan and Robert Kocharyan. In particular, the issue of Robert Kocharyan's arrest may come to the fore. As for Gagik Tsarukyan, it may be about taking away his financial sources and companies. This process will reach Samvel Karapetyan sooner or later. First of all, steps will be taken regarding Gagik Tsarukyan and Robert Kocharyan among the opposition leaders."
