Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) attacked the Moscow Oil Refinery for the second time in a week on the morning of June 18.
Modern.az reports that Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated this. He wrote on his Telegram channel: “Measures are being taken to eliminate the consequences.”
According to the mayor, the remains of neutralized drones fell on the territory of the Sadovod Market shopping center, damaging one of the buildings. No one was injured in the incident. According to Sobyanin, during the attack, which lasted from 04:00 AM to 08:00 AM, air defense forces destroyed approximately 180 Ukrainian drones in the direction of Moscow and over the city.
Ukrainian drones also attacked the Moscow Oil Refinery on June 16. According to Reuters, the Gazprom-owned plant ceased operations after the attack. One of Reuters' sources stated that the facility was planned to be restarted with reduced capacity in the coming days.
As a result of systematic strikes by Ukrainian drones on Russian oil refineries since the beginning of June, the volume of oil refining in the country has fallen below 4 million barrels per day, reaching its lowest level in 21 years. According to Energy Intelligence analysts, approximately one-third of Russia's oil refining capacity — 2.14 million barrels per day — is currently inactive. Analysts believe that Ukraine's campaign against Russia's energy sector has caused serious damage and is leading the country towards one of the most severe fuel crises in its history.
