Large corporate bankruptcies in the US have reached their highest level in recent years.
Modern.az reports that in the first six months of 2026, 372 large companies in the country declared bankruptcy. This is considered the highest figure for the first half of the year in the last 16 years.
According to the information, this is already the fourth consecutive year that the number of corporate bankruptcies in the first six months of the year has increased compared to the same period of the previous year.
One of the striking points is that the number of bankruptcies in the first six months of this year also surpassed the figure of 317 companies recorded throughout 2022.
According to statistics, 72 companies applied for bankruptcy in each of May and June. This figure is considered the third highest monthly result recorded since July 2020.
Most bankruptcies were recorded in the industrial sector. Thus, 50 industrial enterprises ceased operations since the beginning of the year.
The consumer goods and services sector ranked second on the list. 35 companies in this area and 26 companies in the healthcare sector went bankrupt.
Economists state that high interest rates, increasing debt burden, weakening consumer spending, and economic uncertainty continue to seriously affect the financial situation of large companies in the US.
