Among foreign citizens permanently residing in Georgia, there are 8,300 people, and according to ethnic origin, there are 269,000 Azerbaijanis, constituting 6.8% of the total population.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by Gogita Todradze, director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia, when presenting the results of the 2024 population census.

According to the report, after ethnic Georgians (84.1% / 3.304 million people), Azerbaijanis constitute the largest ethnic minority in the country. Armenians are in third place with a 4.3% share.

According to G. Todradze, 96.1% (3.775 million people) of the country's population are citizens of Georgia, 8,865 of whom have dual citizenship. In the last 10 years, the number of local citizens has increased by 2.5%.

The share of foreign citizens is 3.4% (134,000 people). Among them, Russian citizens (37,700 people) predominate. They are followed by citizens of India (23,900), Ukraine (11,500), Azerbaijan (8,300), and Armenia (5,400).

The census revealed a high level of urbanization in the country. Thus, 62% of the population lives in cities and 38% in rural areas.

The population of the capital increased by 20% (223,000 people) compared to 2014, reaching 1.331 million people. Currently, 34% of the country's population is concentrated in Tbilisi.

The sharpest increase was recorded in Batumi. The population increased by 54%, from 153,000 to 236,000 people.
