US President Donald Trump spoke about Washington's military and diplomatic actions in the Middle East.
Modern.az reports that in an interview with Axios, Trump stated that the US pressured Iran in various ways, including through a naval blockade, which led to serious consequences for Iran's naval forces.
He also linked the situation to broader regional conflicts, emphasizing the US role in preventing escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. According to Trump, it was a dangerous situation that could turn into a nuclear confrontation.
"Pakistan asked me not to continue. I said I like them. I stopped Pakistan and India – two nuclear states. The Prime Minister of Pakistan said that Trump saved 50 million lives. But I think that number is even bigger."
According to Trump, the parties were very close to using nuclear weapons, and his intervention prevented a major catastrophe.
When discussing the agreements with Iran, journalist Tiv Caputo noted that the existing framework agreement does not look like "unconditional surrender." Trump responded:
"It's probably unconditional surrender itself. They no longer have an army. Everything is at the bottom of the sea. They had 159 ships."
Trump stated that American operations virtually paralyzed Iran's military capabilities, including its air force and air defense systems.
"We destroyed their air force, their air defense. That's why we could fly completely freely there. We disabled everything. They couldn't do anything."
Trump added that other important figures and structures of the Iranian leadership were also hit, and he believes this seriously weakened the country's military potential.
He also stated that previous US administrations acted less decisively and compared his policy to the agreement signed during former President Barack Obama's term regarding Iran's nuclear program, calling that agreement a "disaster."
According to Trump, US actions led to the "complete destruction" of part of Iran's military infrastructure, and he emphasized that power is the main factor determining the outcomes of diplomacy and conflicts.
