The application of subscription, unlimited and multi-pass travel packages is not foreseen in Baku Metro in 2026.
This was reported by "Baku Metro" CJSC in response to Modern.az's inquiry.
"However, research is being conducted in this direction and the main requirements for future implementation are being determined. It is important that the prices of packages and rules of use are approved by the authorized p in connection with the tariff policy, as well as the protection of passengers' personal data, as well as the prevention of possible illegalities related to cards in terms of security and operation, the implementation of a pilot project and informing passengers".
The information provided by the institution noted that, from a technical point of view, the turnstiles and readers need to be updated or the software improved:
"These systems must recognize time-based subscriptions (weekly, monthly, yearly), correctly apply unlimited use, and automatically reduce the number of trips in multi-pass packages. In addition, functions such as automatic activation of subscriptions and individual identification for annual unlimited cards must also be provided.
In the future, the system should be flexible for changes in tariff policy and the introduction of new payment models, open standards should be used, and a transition to an account-based ticketing system should be considered. At the same time, it is one of the priority tasks that payment methods serve to form a fairer and more efficient tariff mechanism, increase passenger comfort and manage passenger flow more accurately", - the official statement emphasized.
