British Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to announce the date of his resignation on Monday, June 22.
Modern.az reports that "The Guardian" newspaper published this information.
"According to available information, on Monday morning Starmer will present his resignation schedule. Such a step will pave the way for Andy Burnham to the prime minister's chair without the need to enter into a direct struggle with Starmer for leadership in the party until the autumn period," the publication states.
Citing sources, the newspaper noted that representatives of the British Cabinet of Ministers confirmed Starmer's readiness to voluntarily leave his post.
"The Guardian" emphasized that the prime minister initially intended to oppose Burnham's efforts to remove him from the leadership of the Labour Party and the government. Nevertheless, more than 10 members of the cabinet explained to Starmer in confidential conversations that it was necessary for him to leave his post. As a result, the head of government dedicated the weekend to developing a plan for the phased transfer of his powers.
