US President Donald Trump has commented on reports that a part of the post-wedding celebrations of his son Donald Trump Jr. was financed by Russian businessman Umar Kremlev.
Modern.az reports that Trump said he does not know Umar Kremlev.
"I have no idea who Umar is, I have never heard his name. He did not pay for Don and Bettina's wedding. The wedding was held in a completely different place and on a different day. This was a post-wedding party organized in their honor. There is nothing special here," Trump said.
Earlier, a "ProPublica" investigation reported that Umar Kremlev, president of the International Boxing Association (IBA), covered part of the expenses for events held in the Bahamas in May. According to the publication, Kremlev spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, including the rental of one of the private islands.
Donald Trump Jr. and his wife Bettina Trump also confirmed that Kremlev hosted two nights of post-wedding festivities. Bettina called it an "extremely generous wedding gift" from their friends.
The issue has also attracted attention in the US Congress. Robert Garcia, a high-ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, announced that he has launched an investigation into Kremlev's ties to Donald Trump Jr. and the financing of the events.
