Konstantin Polezhayev, former mayor of Belgorod, Russia, and former vice-governor of Belgorod Oblast, has died in the war in Ukraine.
Modern.az reports that Russia's "Fonar" publication spread information about this.
It was reported that the 53-year-old former official died as a result of a drone attack.
Konstantin Polezhayev served as the mayor of Belgorod from 2015 to 2019. He was later appointed deputy governor of the region. While in this position, he was also responsible for the restoration of the settlements of Shebekino and Novaya Tavolzhanka.
Polezhayev was dismissed from his post in 2023, and after some time he was arrested on a bribery case. In 2024, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison by the court.
After this, the former official signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and was sent to fight in Ukraine.
