The meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be held on September 23 in New York.
Modern.az reports that Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated this in an interview with TASS.
The diplomat noted that a meeting with Rubio is planned within the framework of the participation of the Russian delegation led by Lavrov in the high-level week of the UN General Assembly.
“As far as I know, Sergey Lavrov’s meeting with Marco Rubio is scheduled for September 23,” Logvinov emphasized.
Answering a question about the prospects for bilateral meetings between Lavrov and representatives of other Western countries on the sidelines of the General Assembly, Logvinov said that if relevant requests are received, they will be considered by the Russian side, taking into account the minister’s schedule during his stay in New York.
“We have never refused meetings,” the diplomat said.
The general political discussions of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly began on September 22 in New York. The high-level week, attended by approximately 130 world leaders, will continue until September 28. The general debates will be held from September 22 to 26.
During the session, issues related to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, artificial intelligence, and the future of the UN will be among the main topics of discussion.
