King Philip of Belgium did not accept the resignation of Prime Minister Bart De Wever amid the crisis over budget approval in the country. The monarch demanded the head of government immediately resume budget negotiations.
Modern.az reports that this was stated in a statement issued by the Royal Palace.
“Following the consultations, the King decided to reject the Prime Minister's resignation and ask him to immediately resume budget negotiations,” the statement said.
On Friday, King Philip received Bart De Wever and also held consultations with the chairmen of the five parties in the ruling coalition.
At the meetings, all party leaders confirmed their readiness to reach an agreement on the budget for the next three years and make mutual concessions.
The Prime Minister must report back to the King on the results of the negotiations on November 16.
It should be noted that earlier Bart De Wever offered his resignation after the parties in the ruling coalition could not agree on measures to reduce the budget deficit.
Disagreements between the parties concern issues of increasing taxes and reducing public spending at a time when public debt is growing.
