Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan responded to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's accusation against the opposition regarding the number of dead in the 44-day war.
Modern.az reports, citing local media, that Kocharyan said the government should publish the full list of those killed.
"When these young people were called to battle, did they have names and surnames, or not? The coffins were numbered. That's why we say: respect the heroism of these people, publish their names, create a memorial book. If we made a mistake in the number, we apologize," the former president said during his speech in Vedi.
He emphasized that a nation that does not respectfully remember its heroes will not have heroes in the future.
It should be noted that earlier Pashinyan reacted harshly to a citizen's remark during a campaign in Yerevan about "approximately 5,000 people died."
According to the latest data from the Armenian authorities, a total of 3833 people died in the 44-day war in 2020. Of them, 78 were civilians and 3755 were military personnel.
