The UN has responded to US President Donald Trump's statement, "The Moon belongs to the US."
Modern.az reports that UN Secretary-General's spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated that the organization is committed to the peaceful use of outer space:
"We believe in the peaceful use of outer space, and that's all I have to say."
The 1967 Outer Space Treaty, to which more than 100 states, including the United States, are parties, prohibits national appropriation of the Moon and other celestial bodies by claims of sovereignty, use, or occupation.
