Ahmet Davutoğlu may be arrested - investigation launched

An investigation has been launched against Turkey's former Prime Minister and leader of the Future Party, Ahmet Davutoğlu.

Modern.az reports that the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Davutoğlu's statements shared on social media, which are considered to contain insulting expressions against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

It was stated that Davutoğlu is being investigated under Article 299, paragraph 1 of the Turkish Penal Code, which provides for insulting the president. According to this article, insulting the president is punishable by imprisonment from 1 to 4 years.

It should be noted that Ahmet Davutoğlu served as the Prime Minister of Turkey from 2014 to 2016. He also served in the leadership of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) for many years.
