Israeli President Isaac Herzog has tasked Gadi Eisenkot with forming a new government.
Modern.az reports that "Reuters" has disseminated this information.
Gadi Eisenkot, former Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and leader of the “Yashar” party, will officially receive the relevant mandate on November 8 at 5:00 PM. He has been given 28 days to form the government. The period can be extended by another 14 days.
Netanyahu's coalition, consisting of religious and nationalist parties, lost its majority in parliament according to the election results. However, it remained the largest political bloc in parliament.
At the same time, the opposition bloc led by Eisenkot refused to unite with Arab parties that could provide him with a parliamentary majority.
Nevertheless, Arab leaders, who oppose the policies of Netanyahu and his far-right allies, put forward Eisenkot's candidacy during negotiations with President Herzog.
