If US President Donald Trump issues a relevant order, American troops in the Middle East could launch new and potentially large-scale operations against Iran within 96 hours.
Modern.az reports that CNN channel spread information about this, citing two American officials.
According to the channel, sufficient military forces are currently deployed in the region to carry out such attacks. According to officials who spoke to CNN, the operations could be more extensive than the limited strikes carried out against Iran after the US ceased large-scale combat operations in early 2026.
These strikes primarily targeted radar systems, missile launchers, and other Iranian facilities that could be quickly restored.
Officials emphasized that the main issue is not whether such an order will be given, but when it will happen. According to their estimates, the decision could be made by the end of the year. However, it is considered more realistic for operations to begin after the interim elections in the US. CNN's interlocutors noted that Trump has not yet made a final decision.
According to CNN, the US Armed Forces Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Pentagon have already prepared an extensive list of targets. The list includes Iran's energy infrastructure, military facilities, and nuclear facilities.
According to US intelligence assessments, if such an attack occurs, Iran and the Houthis of the “Ansar Allah” movement in Yemen will likely immediately launch retaliatory strikes. These attacks are said to be able to target American troops and facilities located in the region and beyond its borders.
