The Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan has commented on the statement of the Minister of Science, Research and Technology of Iran, Hossein Simayi-Sarraf, regarding education issues in our country.
Modern.az reports that the ministry stated that the Iranian official's remarks caused surprise and regret.
“This is a completely inappropriate statement and nothing more than an attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan. No one is allowed to interfere in the internal affairs of our country, including its education policy, and such attempts at interference are resolutely prevented,” the statement emphasized.
The ministry advised Iranian officials to deal with their own country's problems instead of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries.
The statement noted that as a result of Iran's policy, there is not a single school in that country where teaching is conducted in Azerbaijani, and teaching in Azerbaijani is not carried out in higher education institutions.
The ministry's statement said that approximately 40 million of Iran's population consists of indigenous ethnic Azerbaijanis, and they have been deprived of the right to education in their mother tongue for decades.
“It would be better if the Minister of Science, Research and Technology of Iran and other individuals speaking on this topic in Iran dealt with these very issues instead of interfering in Azerbaijan's internal affairs, and took measures to eliminate this unprecedented injustice that has been going on for decades,” the statement said.
