Venezuela's opposition leader and 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado presented the Nobel Peace Prize medal to US President Donald Trump, stating that he understood the situation in the country.

Modern.az reports that this was stated in a “Reuters” report.

Machado emphasized that during the meeting, she was able to discuss the expectations and hopes of Venezuelans during a difficult period for the country.

However, she did not clarify to journalists whether Trump had officially accepted the gift.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee had previously stated that after a laureate is announced, the prize cannot be revoked, divided, or given to other individuals. The decision to award the prize is final and remains in effect indefinitely.

“Reuters” notes that similar transfers of awards have occurred before. For example, in 1943, Nobel laureate in Literature Knut Hamsun presented his medal to Nazi Germany's propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.

After Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was recently overthrown by the US, opposition leader María Corina Machado offered to share the Nobel Peace Prize with Donald Trump, emphasizing that his actions were historically significant and played a crucial role in promoting democratic changes in Venezuela. She noted that the medal she received in October was an award Trump had sought for many years.

María Corina Machado received the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize "for her sustained work in promoting the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and her struggle for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy."
