More than 230,000 chickens have been destroyed in Japan's Aomori prefecture due to an outbreak of bird flu.

A prohibited zone has been imposed within a 10 km radius around 32 poultry farms in that district.
Experts believe that the spreading disease could have serious economic consequences. For example, the mass destruction of chickens due to the bird flu wave in 2023 led to the highest egg prices in the country since 1991. The selling price of eggs increased by 76 percent compared to the previous year. Some supermarkets even imposed quantity restrictions on customers during retail sales.
