The White House has positively assessed the first day of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
According to Modern.az, CNN reported this.
A White House representative stated: “Both sides agreed that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open to ensure the free flow of energy resources.”
He added that Xi Jinping clearly stated during the meeting that China opposes the militarization of the strait and attempts to charge for its use. In addition, China expressed interest in increasing its purchase of US oil in order to reduce its dependence on the Strait of Hormuz in the future.
The White House representative did not clarify whether Xi Jinping agreed to expand China's participation in resolving the US-Iran conflict.
The leaders also discussed issues related to economic cooperation, including the export of fentanyl from China to the US and increasing the purchase of agricultural products from the US.
